Flight of the Ninja
This week will be spectacularly busy. I'm going to work as much as I can stand tomorrow and the next day so that I can drive to Anchorage on Wednesday around noon (my husband's birthday, incidentally, which I'll be missing), pick up the new doggie addition to our family, and return to Fairbanks by 8am to take my little sister to her very first day of her very first real job. Then back to work on the thesis for the rest of Thursday and Friday. Then next weekend we're going to the dog shows to watch the poodles compete and meet other Alaskan poodle folks. *sigh* I'm tired just thinking about it. But the good news is, by the end of the week (cross your fingers, knock on wood, and say a little prayer, wouldja?) we'll have our very own Ninja Poodle!

Isn't he the most gorgeous dog ever? He's a spectacular black miniature poodle bred by Belinda over at Impulse Poodles. He'll have an eleven and a half hour flight up here, and then a 6-8 hour drive from Anchorage back to Fairbanks. Poor baby, I hope he isn't too traumatized by it all. If he is, I'll just baby him with liver and other yummies until he loves me forever and forgets what a long haul it was to reach me.
Yup, for those of you astute readers out there, that's the SAME Belinda who just sent me the yummy, wonderful, fabulous soap package just the other day. She's my hero - I want to be Belinda when I grow up. Go visit her blog if you don't already. Most of you probably found my blog from Belinda's though, so this may be a moot suggestion!
In other news, I've been noticing all these hits to my blog from searches for 'Alaska bird flue' - which is weird, because in my post I spelled it flu. It comes from the word influenza, folks, but it is usually written flu not flue. I'm not really very worried about bird flu anymore - I'm not going back up to my research area what with my thesis being due in three weeks, and if it makes it this far inland, I figure we're all toast. Plus, I've got a lot of other stuff on my plate.
To the person who arrived here after googling 'poodles smell after exercise' - umm, mine doesn't. He smells when he farts on my arm while we're cuddling in the computer chair or on the couch together, but after a good romp? Not so much. Sorry. Incidentally - that TV commercial with that ugly Dodge car? I think the car is called the Dodge Caliber or Calibre or something like that. Anyway, it's the one with the dog hanging his rear end out the window? When I saw it, I thought it was funnier than all get out. Mostly because since my dog went on a new diet, he's had some serious gas. And I can imagine it getting so bad inside the car that he hangs his hiney out the window. My husband had to explain to me that the dog was mooning people - I thought he was just in trouble for polluting the air in the car. *sigh* Apparently, my thought process is a little different from that of their target audience. Oh well.

Hee. I wondered how long it would take you to have a picture up! Please post some after you've had a REAL groomer work on him! Alex and I could truly not be any happier about this pup's new home, and we feel confident that he will give you a great start in showdogs. Just wait until you are holding that first blue ribbon and having that first win picture taken--you will be SO hooked!
I would also like it to be known that you are getting the least ninja-esque of all the ninja poodles in residence--this boy is unsettlingly well-mannered. I know you'll do great things with him, but most importantly, I know he'll be loved like mad, and probably spoiled stupid. ;-)
I'll post about this end of his journey on Wednesday, and as always, I will cry when I leave the airport. But I will be happy, too.
And no, I can't sleep. Bleah.
Hi Erin!
I stopped by ur blog and am commenting to just hello!
So Shelly sent me over... partially because I think she likes you... and partially because she knows I have a thing for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... and lo and behold... your getting a Ninja Poodle... that is mad cool... good luck with him!
I've always wanted to get into show dogs - I think it would be so much fun. I hope all works out with your Ninga Poodle...
Dear God I want a Ninja Poodle.
I am so jealous.
Don't feel sorry for the Queen. She knows where the Ninjas are. It's just a matter of figuring out the manipulation of the Kaiser...
Belinda - It's okay - to us he'll always be a ninja poodle. :P I suspect that showing will be lots of fun. We'll give him a good home, I promise.
Crystal - Thanks for stopping by.
NYCWD - Thanks! Shelly's a wonderful person and a very funny blogger. We're super excited about having our own little Ninja.
Undercover Angel - I think showing will be lots of fun. I'm a bit nervous about the hair, but we'll manage, I think.
QofS - So talk to Belinda, silly!
Belinda - Ahhh, that's the problem. Luckily, I have no such problem. My husband is looking forward to Multiple Poodle Syndrome at least as much as I am!
What a cutie! I've never been a fan of poodles, but he's just too cute!
I hope all goes well with the trip and I'm sure you will do well with your showing. The ninjas are cute, but I fell in love with Standards first:o)
Stopping by your blog via Shelley on Click & Comment Monday.
It's funny to do searches on what words people use to find your blog. There are some really weird ones about Jane & Tarzan.
I love Belinda's site & am gonna click right on over. That dog is so cute, do you know what you're gonna name him yet?
ps...came by way of The Dramedy of Life
What a cute pup!!
Thanks to the likes of you and Belinda and CeCe, I'm considering a poodle as our family pet. Of course, I would wait until I either get a job closer to home or just quit altogether. ic ould never leave a dog couped up for 11 hours a day.
Or we could get a mutt. I love the thought of rescueing a shelter dog. But the allergy factor shoots that one in the foot. Maybe I can rescue a poodle. Once I quit. Or get a closer job.
I'm rambling.
Congrats on the poodle addition!
Shelley - I didn't think I liked poodles until I met one. Once I had, it was love at first sight.
Kim - We're looking forward to showing, I think it'll be fun. Standards are gorgeous, but so BIG!
Gina - Welcome!
Jane - I'm sure Jane and Tarzan brings in the Google weirdos. I recently had a person arrive via the search "fairbanks miner stripper." Gah.
Ethel - He sure is, isn't he?
Maidink - Yes! Another poodle person! They're amazing dogs, and so very smart and loving. They really don't deserve the reputation that they seem to have as frou-frou dogs. My Bobby is quite athletic, and the sire of the dog I'm getting from Belinda is an agility champion. Poodles rock!
oooh! He *is* pretty! Lucky you! Please let us know how it goes with the trip.
Hope you see this, Erin! You have so many wonderful comments!
You've been tagged! The tag:
"Instructions: Name ten of life's simple pleasures that you like the most, then pick ten people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used."
Beautiful dog! Hope you're doing well in teaching table manners :-)
Belinda IS awesome. But I don't want to be her when I grow up. I want to be like Alex when I DON'T grow up...
I hope your ninja poodle is a cool as mine! And yeah, poodles do have a bad rep, but Jacy is such an awesome dog (except the peeing... but we won't talk about the peeing). I can't wait to see your entry about his trip! It was neat to post my entry and to see the other end of Jacy's trip on Belinda's blog! And getting to talk to B. on the phone when I picked Jacy up! HA! What a cute accent!
*whispers*: she didn't pee in *my* house.
Poodlebugz - Thanks, and I'll definitely post pictures so that Belinda and Sue can see that he made it safe and sound and happy once we get back to Fairbanks.
Grace - Thanks. It'll take me a bit to get a chance to do the meme, as I'm SUPER busy right now. But I'll do it, I promise.
Rennyba - From what I understand he's spectacular on the table already, thanks to Belinda.
Mr. Fab - Alex lurves this puppy, so I'm super lucky that he's letting me have it. Thanks, Alex!
CeCe - I figure that he'll probably have a few accidents, since he's still quite young. And I'm sure he'll be a spectacular dog. I'm really happy to hear that Jacy's doing well with you!
Belinda - Sure. *wink* Maybe it's just that she's in new, unfamiliar, COLD surroundings. :) I'm a bit worried that Ryder will freeze up here!
